![]() ![]() Alex Abbad’s Bejo is as smug and smarmy as any cowardly gang leader could be, while Afirin Putra’s turn as crime-lord Bangun’s only son Uco, gets the mix of cockiness and spoiled naive brat spot on. From there on, while the plot is not as grand or complex as many crime epics, it keeps the pace up and things moving as we waltz from brutally entertaining fist fight to the next. While he rejects the initial offer, a brutal murder of someone close to Rama makes him reconsider. Picking up practically straight away after the events of the first film, we find Rama (Iko Uwais) being pressured into going undercover to take down corrupt officers. The Raid 2: Berandal is an expansive, action-filled thrill ride through the Indonesian underground that successfully follows on from the first film and expands a universe that the first film only hinted at. Would it be another rehash of a successful formula that served the first film so well? The answer is an emphatic no. ![]() So, making a sequel to a film with limited plotting would have seemed an odd choice for talented film-maker Gareth Evans. Oh, and add to that some really inventive and brutal action scenes along the way. The bad guys were defeated and brothers were reunited and overcame the daunting odds.
